Keeping in Touch

We stopped by the moving company yesterday to sort through the things they pulled off our shipment (just to make sure there wasn't anything dire that needed to come and had been pulled) and we managed to convince them to let us drop off our pillows and duvets to add to the shipment. I think at the end of the day we are slightly over 4,000 but everyone was tired of us trying to sort/pull things, etc. and just said to forget it. Ha!

I'm thankful we were able to squeeze in a little more because I really didn't feel up to adding a trip to the post office on my To-Do list this/next week. I figured our stuff will take about a month to get up there, and I've been told that mailing things/having things shipped - it can take anywhere from 2 to 5 weeks (6 even, during the holiday season!!) So yeah, you should probably start sending me my birthday gifts now for September! ;)

Due to Baker Lake being such a small place, there are no actual road names, or "addresses" per se. The entire hamlet shares one postal code, and there are post office boxes at the Northmart for some people and everyone else gets General Delivery.

So our address when we move will be:

Our Names
General Delivery
Baker Lake, Nunavut
X0C 0A0

Our mailing address reminds me of Little House on the Prairie because it's so quaint. We are pioneers, people! Arctic pioneers!! I've always loved LHotP, so this actually appeals to me on some level. If I start learning how to sew bonnets and carry everything around in a basket, look out.

I was just thinking that I can't really remember the last time I wrote a letter. With email, Skype and texting - I haven't had the need to. Sometimes my sister sends me random hand-written surprises in the mail and it always makes my day to get something that's not a bill. So I'm going to start doing that. Applications for pen pals are now being accepted! ;) I just need to find pretty stationary and stuff to inspire me.

Aside from mail, we will have Skype (if I ever remember to buy us a webcam, or else we can do it from the iPad I guess?), phone, email and of course this blog. Thankfully we're living in the age of technology - so even though we're 1,600 miles apart we can pretend we're just down the street.

  2. You're more than welcome to take the journey with us - come visit for a while ;)

Not sure I'm good enough for a book, but I've certainly been enjoying the writing! It makes the distance seem much more bearable.
